Re: Mendip Cave Festival insurance discussion

Jeez.

Someone goes to the trouble of organising an event for ALL cavers, and someone who gets to Mendip once in a blue moon starts jibbing about a trivial payment.

Is it because they didn't mention 'conservation' 5 times in a post?

BCA insurance is required to access certain caves. If you wish to visit one of these caves, and then book accordingly, you will be informed that insurance is to be obtained.
Not all visiting cavers will require BCA insurance.
Not all caves require BCA insurance for access.

I do hope this is enough to satisfy any questions.

I don't think the cost is as important as the message it sends out.  Other than that I don't understand your post

That does clear up the confusion.  Thank you.

I hope you can appreciate the point I was making.  I've made it a number of times in various places and things are changing as a result.  Good luck with the event and looking forward to hearing more about it.

It's clear that the insurance issue is a big topic, but we here at CavefestUK are only trying to provide the best environment, and safest way for everyone to cave at the Mendip event.
We do not wish to confuse people or put them off with hidden charges, nor do we want issues to arise due to concerns that can be appeased.
It's good that this discussion has arisen and people are so keen to clarify the insurance issue, but we feel that this is something that was prudent for us to implement during the event,  and that the debate surrounding it should be continued in the proper committee setting.

We look forward to enjoying another great Mendip event and hope to see you all there.
Cave safe.
