Yep, I'm after an SRT trip to awe and impress a mate who has done a bit in the Peak but never in the Dales..

Ideally

Weatherproof / safe in the rain..

Plenty of string, traverses / fun manoveres etc

Close to the road / not a massive walk in

No permit required, it will be a short notice trip..

Hard to beat Alum Pot direct for general awesomeness, though I suppose if you're after lots of fancy rigging and traversing it might disappoint (though you can get that next door in Diccan if it's dry  ) - not entirely weatherproof, but at least you can see what it's like before you start.

Lost John's is a top SRT trip but Leck Fell is off limits til end of June, then a permit's needed.

Simpson's is good - no permit needed - can pull through to Valley Entrance if not too wet, or rig traditionally otherwise.

Permits for Gaping Gill and associated entrances are available directly from the estate office and they usually turn them around pretty quickly. It's worth asking.

Second langcliffe (though I know to my near cost that Rowten's not entirely 'rain-proof').

To be honest, I doubt if there is a location in the Dales that fits all your criteria.

Don't you just luuuurrrve Jason's idea of 'weatherproof if it's dry'?

To echo the above; Rowten offers the closest match to all your criteria. As Fulk says, not entirely rain-proof but the average wet weather we experience it'll be reet.

If the weather is on your side then places like; Alum, Aquamole, Jingling, Marble Steps - may fit some of the criteria.
