16 people have died there in the last 20 years. Three of these have been members of the Army. Though they are not cavers as defined on this forum you would still expect them to know what they are doing wouldn't you?
I would have expected their instructors to know what they were doing.

Same thing surely? The instructors are the representatives of the Army as far as the recruits are concerned. Whilst I can see and appreciate your point, how do you know that these people were ill equipped??
I think we will have to agree to disagree. I just don't fancy trying to swim through a pool that has killed so many people however well equipped / instructed I was.
Nice to have a good debate though. (y)

going through is really nice i have heard another theory that if you wear a diving mask though you can see that your walking on a raised area and i you lose your footing you slip under the side although it just another theory to throw in the pot!

what dates are you comming to wales?

Does anyone know if the through trip in Nant Rhin is do-able. Are both entrances accessible and is Aven D'oznog rigged for a pull though?

Haven't done this myself but saw Roy Morgan the other week and he was telling me how good it was. The way he was talking implied that the pitch is indeed rigged for a pull through. He also suggested that you ALWAYS check the lower entrance first before doing so as it has a tendency to collapse from time to time. Top entrance is open and (according to Roy) is easy to find.

11th / 12th August. Looks like we'll be camping near DYO on the Saturday night. (probably foolhardy - camping and caving are not always a good mix with the weather!).

I've asked the membership secretary of SWCC if there's any chance we can get a trip into OFD, no reply yet.....

If you can't get into any of the big 'uns I'd recommend a trip into Pwll Swnd - it's a cracking little trip if you haven't done it before.  then you can finish off the day with the Herbert's through-trip.

Just heard from assistant secretary, who has kindly offered to see what can be done, in particular if a couple of leaders are willing to lead us. I am sure that between us we can buy them enough beer to give them a hangover for a month
