Road Closure

Anyone heading to Penwyllt (SWCC) or to Dan-yr-Ogof should be aware that the A4067 - the main road up and down the Swansea valley - is currently closed, outside the Ancient Briton, after a landslip.

Beware that the recommended diversion route is a long way (43 miles!); instead get out your OS Map or road atlas and use the lanes through Coelbren and past Henrhyd Falls, and rejoin the A4067 at Pen-y-Cae.

Unfortunately, lots of other people will have the same idea and that back lane is going to get very clogged. I'll be going Newport, Raglan, Abergavenny, Brecon, Defynnog if it's still closed next time I go up (it's my sunny day scenic route home anyway).

According to Google maps, doing that only adds 9 minutes and 6 miles on to the usual route.

Are you going to wales then?
Make sure you get your passport stamped and don't forget to leave your whippet at the border, along with your flat cap and ferret...  :tease:

Yeah, cos they eat whippets and ferrets in Wales.

Don't know what they'd do with a flat cap though.

If there's someone who can be trusted to leave things behind, it's Alex...

Alex.
Yes it is likely to be closed a while.  Three or four big trees came down about a month ago and took up to the verge. The council was doing quite extensive embanking but a further landslip has occured taking the collapse up to the centre of the road.

They are pushing a temporary bypass through the field and are talking about opening by next Tuesday.

Amazing how many numptees you get to meet on the back lanes.
