Searching Mendip for the best Cream Tea!

I'd like to find somewhere on Mendip tomorrow, preferably near Cheddar for a really good cream tea - plenty of clotted cream and warm scones and generous amounts of tea for a reasonable price.

Suggestions anyone? My standards are high! We'd like to get one before/after popping in to see Mendip's new caving shop.

Derek's Tea Rooms, up the Gorge opposite Goughs used to be good...
...if it's still there (I haven't been for some years though)

I haven't been to Banwell Castle for a long time, and they may not still do them, but the scones were monsters and the rest came in copious quantities too.

Hungry now.

Shame I didn't spot this one in time.

Still Les's response is accurate and I can confirm from recent experience that Dereks is still open and still does good cream teas.

Also nearby in Wedmore the bridal outfitters has a nice little cafe that does good cream teas.

Also in Wookey Hole the cafe behind the post office does good cream teas.

But the best local cream tea at the moment is in the http://www.thefoodhut.co.uk/ at the Golden acres nursery in Tickenham. Good home made scones (warmed) and with lashings and lashings of clotted cream  (y)

Mak, when is the book "Best Cream Tea Shops in the UK" coming out?

You must have visited pretty much all of them. Or is more research required?

Your standards are high? You ruin them with raspberry jam! It should always be strawberry...
