Anyone know what is down the Pitch in Sell Gill after the duck and crawl etc, is there any more passage after the pitch?

I also notice there is a rope ladder hanging from the roof near the crawl before the pitch, anyone know whats up there?

As I said in the other thread there is no more cave after the new final pitch just some rubble. I had a go at the rope ladder you mention and it is not for the faint hearted. You spend ages at ground level going nowhere as the strecth comes out and then the rungs end up being miles apart. Generally it's an absolute arse to climb and it doesn't even go anywhere good. But if your feeling brave it's fun for the others to watch ;)

Y isn't the cave after the final pitch being dug?
Is it because the diggers R connecting the calcite section near the top to rest of cave?

Partly because the limit of exploration is a blocked descending rift less than 15 m above the level of the resurgence at Newhouses Rising (which is impenetrable) and there is no draught.  The resurgence is about a kilometre away.

Some time ago, before this final area was discovered, I observed a flood pulse emerge from Newhouses Rising less than 2 hours after rain started on the fell.  However dye takes quite a long time to get through.  This rapid transmission (together with the exceptionally low gradient and long transmission times of dye) suggest that much of the cave system in between Sell Gill and Newhouses will be flooded.

But as they say, caves is where you find 'em (quote P.B.Smith, on many occasions over the years).
