Hi guys

I was with Chris on Friday when we found that the dry route was plugged with snow.

We dug it out a bit but gave up and did alum pot instead. We. Spoke to a group today that said they went down Friday evening after a bit more digging...and managed an exchange so it should be good to go now.

We were also told that swinsto was snow plugged on Saturday and that one group gave up trying to find the entrance. Swinsto is now accessible as we were there today.

Hope this helps.

P.s Chris was good to meet you on Friday...let me know if your in the peaks area and I'll let you know when we are in the dales next

I was one of a group who did an exchange on Friday evening, and we didn't have to do anything to get in, so maybe we followed someone else who did do some digging - it was open both ends. Not that there wasn't any snow left mind.

I went in the 'wet' route, which wasn't very wet at all, and derigged the dry route, which was hilarious and a little hairy. I've never been before, and so coming up into a giant cornice of snow on the exit pitch, having no idea at all what was underneath it (I'm guessing a boulder choke) was a bit of a 'gulp' moment, especially when I saw the rope was cutting a good 40cm into the snow. I managed to swipe the jammer sideways and chop a big slice of snow out, and just spread myself over the whole blob and climb messily up it.

Great quick trip though, apart from the subzero walk back.

If I recall the floor is flat so if your climbing thats pure snow your going up.

Brilliant. Well, good to know I did it when I could. When that lot drops I'd prefer to be above it.

Actually, thinking about it, maybe the girls did have to dig out the dry entrance a bit - I'd already gone down the wet route and never thought to ask if they'd dug it out first when I got out.

Get down the wet route and leave the hard work to the girls, smart thinking there  (y)
Its a pretty straight sided hole so alot snow in there.
Glad you had a good trip!
