Short Drop/Gavel

Years since I've done it so a memory jog is required please.

Rigging topo has Gavel having two different routes (both 20m) to start. Only one on the topo connects to the Short Drop traverse, the other will be the route into Gavel itself. Is the first route the only way onto the SD traverse or will the other one connect too?

Thanks.

Yeah you can get to short drop via either route. As you said, one route goes straight onto the start of the traverse and the other route goes down the open pothole itself. If you go down the open pothole and head away from the rest of gavel (go up the slope) then you'll get to the bottom of the other route and the start of the traverse via a short section of passage.

Hope that helps!

The ‘other one’ in the open gavel pot is convex and better for a ladder. The one on the left that drops directly on to the short drop traverse is the better SRT hang with one in situ deviation.

As above, the two are connected by a short walk underground.
