Singing Rock Double Stop Plus

From the Kong website you would think this is a new device. It has however been around for some years. I have one which is branded by the height safety company Protecta but I'm pretty sure it is also manufactured by Anthron.

The claimed conformance on this product is questionable. As far as I am aware there are no devices which conform to EN12846C and EN341A for use on EN892 dynamic ropes.

We tested it extensiveley when it first came out and it now hangs with my collection of devices that aren't worth wasting your money on.

I love my Anthron...

...on a nice clean 10.5mm rope.

Absolute arse to descend on a muddy rope using it as designed (Double Stop), as it usually involves more bouncing then a trampoline championship. You can get down at a decent enough pace rigged in Single stop, but that's not "recommended" in any way shape or form.

EDIT:-

It seems that Anthron have beefed it up somewhat, and released the DSD-Plus. Higher ratings all around from what I am seeing. Some very interesting single-handed speedy descents using it. Looks almost identical to the one we are used to, apart from the handle is a little longer?

Interesting replies, thanks, I'll be sticking to the Stop for the moment then!

I've also used a Stop and Petzl Rig in a hauling system - It was quite easy with 2 people hauling 80kg.

Sceptical though I am next time I get the toys out I shall experiment.

Thanks for your all your comments.

Resurrecting an old thread - Time to eat humble pie.

In spite of my scepticism I have been playing with iDs - specifically using them for progress capture in z rigs.  I have to concede that friction isn't the issue I believed it was.  Additionally the ability to easily transfer from raising to lowering (and vice verca) gives the ID an overwhelming advantage over the "A block" (Petzl Basic & Rescue Pulley) set up I have been using for progress capture.  On the whole I think I am a convert.
