Sludge Pit

Officially there is no parking for Sludge Pit. The cave is accessed along a drove road prohibited to vehicles (doesn't seem to stop the motor bikes and 4 x 4s though).

I guess you could park anywhere along the verge of Eastwater Lane (public highway), so long as you don't cause an obstruction for the residents or tractors and farm equipment.

Looking at the map it doesn't seem far from Eastwater Farm. I've been on a bit of a hiatus from caving over the summer, so just wanted to check you could still park at Eastwater farm for a fee, I know we have done that before when visiting Eastwater.

Would it not make sense to have something in the CSCC access guide about parking? - that was the first place I checked. I know most people using the cave will live locally, and have a hut to park at,but not all of us do, and we want to make sure we do the right thing, and don't hack anyone off.

As you say it is good to check you are doing the right thing but in this case it is fairly easy to figure out when you arrive. There is plenty of space to park on the Eastwater Lane verge just before the Wessex drive. There is no need to pay any goodwill fee for parking, it is the public highway. There is a goodwill fee of ?1 to be put in the honesty box in the cave.

So far as I am aware parking has not been an issue. As usual a bit of common sense and courtesy go along way.

If it becomes an issue or the local residents express any concerns I'll update the CSCC Access guide accordingly.
