Does anyone know what this is? I was walking round there the other week and the non ruined part looks like a bunkhouse from a peer through the windows?  Google isnt coming up with anything, so it possibly isnt called southerscales farm.  the place I mean - take the stile opposite the chapel-le-dale church turn off a short way before the old hill Inn, head up the hillside for about 10 mins.  there is a ruined barn and old farmhouse.

Just curious really, and always on the lookout for good acccomadation in Yorkshire.

Hi Terry

It used to be a holiday cottage - I spent many a October half term there when I was a kid. More recently it was closed down by the health and safety people due to fire regulations - i.e. the guy that owned it didn't want to ruin it by putting in huge fire doors and an upstairs fire escape. Its a shame really, it was a lovely place.

Hope this helps!

OUCC used to use it regularly until at least the late '90s.

Many fond memories of the place; and an unbeatable view down the Dale from the kitchen window. If only it was open to offers!

We used to go there yearly with the York Uni club - a real shame to see it no longer available.  It's really nice to go away with a club and stay at a cottage, rather than a bunkbarn, but there seems to be so few suited to (and willing to take on) cavers.  Anyone know of any other good ones in the Dales?
