We wanted to make you aware of the special session in honour of Dr.James F.Quinlan at the Annual GSA meeting scheduled for October 8-13. We hope that you will consider submitting an abstract and making a presentation for the session to be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The intent of this special session is to honour the memory of Jim for his long and significant contributions to the field of karsthydrology.
Jim was the Park Geologist at Mammoth Cave National Park for many years before becoming a full time consultant. Jim helped workout many procedures for both qualitative and quantitative tracer testing in the Mammoth Cave area before his untimely passing in 1995.
Jim was a graduate of VPI (BS) and UT-Austin (Ph.D). He was widely traveled and spent time in Europe, Australia, Africa, and North America. He wrote extensively about karst processes and is still widely referenced in the karst literature. We are encouraging submissions from people that knew Jim, but also from those who are carrying on the spirit of his work to understand and solve applied karst problems. We expect to see and are encouraginga range of abstracts from students to seasoned professionals. Please feel free to distribute this announcement to others.
