Vandalism in Box 9th February 2012

We were in Box last night - travelling from Jacks Entrance through to Backdoor via a visit to the upper series (with help from the surveyors)
As we returned from the dodgy upper series the air was filled with the smell of paint spray. Luckily for those perpetrating the vandalism we exited via the cathedral instead of catching them in the act at backdoor itself.

However we were soon to discover a new head height addition to the graffiti in Box

When we exited to backdoor - we found a series of arrows on the floor marking their route to backdoor. We were horrified to find the handiwork at backdoor

The roof above backdoor was covered

It would not have been pretty if we had caught them - we must have missed them by minutes

Sad and disapointing, but perhaps safer for you not to have caught them "orange" handed
On a better note from the pictures it looks like some of the older graf' is being removed, a hard and thankless task no doubt

Seems hardly worth it and remembers todays vandalistic graffiti is history in the making (including social comment).  Remember what has happened to some of Banksy's work. OK this doesn't have the wit of Banksy but to some future generation it might add something to their knowledge of 21st century youth cultuire.

Sorry, Pete, but that is almost a call to vandalise. I am all in favour of conserving historical and archaeological material of this nature but recent work (the American's use a rolling fifty year rule for this - if it's less than fifty years old now, it goes ) should not in any way be encouraged or kept.

Sorry mrodoc but Brian C gave me some lessons in removing graffiti and the only stuff left is on the ceiling.

Mr brian c has done stirling work cleaning off the spray paint in browns shame the dickplaces group dont appreciate what hes doing and banned him from their forum. We will never stop this sort of vandalism which is very sad . At ridge the drawings from years ago are fantastic then some useless waste of spaces started graffiting over them and doing other things they shouldnt hence thats why ridge got blocked.

Brian_C is not banned from darkplaces, indeed has posted several times today.

And the Ridge slopeshaft was blocked by the landowners due to "Carvan Using Nomadic Travelling Sorts" using it to gain access to Monks.

well he was banned a while ago. And ridge slope shaft was blocked due to certain people going under a certain wall and into monks before it was shut and piddling around with stuff in there  and trying to break into the door . The hole was blocked with blocks and razor wire to stop people getting in but it got re-opened There is nothing of scrap metal value worth taking in ridge  it was not the caravan types as you say because they can get scrap a lot easier on the surface and at least it stops the graffiti ruining all the wartime drawings !If the Map references and locations of these quarrys was not plastered all over various web sites this sort of problem would possibly be a lot less and the quarrys would not be like piccadily circus all the time. I was in hollybush last week and met three groups and thats possibly the smallest quarry in the area. ten years ago the entrance was very hard to locate now it may as well have a motorway sign on the entrance  much the same as swan and browns.
