Stump Cross: Amber worth £750 stolen from Yorkshire cavern

The piece of amber was taken during a fossil dig event in caves, its owner says.

A "palm sized" piece of amber containing a trapped fly couldn't be found after a children's "fossil dig"

I can see how appealing it must be for kids to pocket a lovely piece of amber that they excavate, but the article also mentions a theft of a shark tooth by someone who should have known better, and who broke it by throwing it from his car when caught. A real shame, as I love the concept - what an engaging way for kids to learn about archaeology!

Edit: although for the kids, coprolite might be the best mineral? And as a tapeworm that's your element too...
