Ok, I'v just got back from a DP european worlwind trip. The idea was to help move a friends mom to spain and do some international exploring on the way. Started well, looking around the D-Day beaches, bunkers, caves, mines etc. Got as far as Saint Lo Lower Normandy when the differentual went on the van, lots of cogs in back axle very important, no breakdown cover... seven days / 1 full week LATER... After badgering the french spanner monkey, taking the thing apart ourselfs, getting mates in Cumbria to rip out diff's in england and send it to France and helping put the new thing back in. Finally On our way to spain, very noisy van, ears bleeding but happy to be moving and not having to deal with french spanner grabbers. Return trip, saw the Milau Bridge, BIG BIG Mountains, Andora etc. Saint Etienne (middle of france) the gear box fell off......... Fell off, as in departed from the engine.. Atleast the noise stopped. Luckyly this time we had brought RAC cover after the 1st Breakdown. Only took 3 days to be told the van was having an extended stay in France and we were given loan cars to go home in. YIPPY, I'v never been so happy to get back to England..
Visited 6 countrys, drove 3000+miles, broke down twice. Spent 10days in total with kaput van.

I now hate the French...as the French hate the english..

Hi, here is a handy tip when using one of those nasty hole-in-the-ground bogs they have on the French service areas:-

Don't have your car keys loose in your pocket, with your trousers round your ankles.

Here is another tip:- Have spare car keys.

And one last one:- Don't for a minute think you an retreive anything from said hole-in-ground with a broken off car arial.

Which causes you to spend a Saturday night poking holes in the nail to relieve the pressure!.

One Boozy night at the Chapel (Tsg Hut in Castleton) Bograt decided to go into the loft (dont ask) on the way back down, someone released the rope mechanism which held the hatch open and did all eight of his fingers,
he was fine until the beer wore off.

Reading Darkplaces tale of woe promts me to confess,
I was driving on said occasion and I own the decrepid piece of crap masquerading as a van. Gotta fly back to Lyon to collect it on Sunday......
