At the Council meeting on 6th October it was decided that subscription rates would be unchanged in 2019
save that membership for those aged under 18 on 1st January 2019 will be free of charge.

.....and please don't forget to sign up to the newsletter it's due out soon, BCA

I?m happy to hear that rates won?t be increased. However, I fail to see why making the membership fee for under 18?s free is supposed to help anyone.

Cheers for the update.

So am I right that BCA DIM subs are ?22, with a further ?12 if you want to be in BCRA (but not get the paper copy of Cave & Karst Science)?

Final question; are 2019 subs acceptable now? (Just so it's off my mind.)

Thanks.

It will help under 18s get a start in caving by reducing the initial cost. You've got a lot of costs there - kit, transport, club fees - it helps to at least get rid of one hurdle, you can only have a maximum of three trips before you'd have to get insurance, which is free with BCA membership.

I think it's a good move by BCA but then I might be somewhat biased...

Surely removing the ?11 fee isn't going to have much of an effect on the overall cost though? I for one thought that the 50% discount was a steal already! Personally I think that other things need to change to get people of this age group underground, there's no point lowering membership fees for young club members if most clubs are reluctant to take on under 18's in the first place.  :)

Don't worry, it's not the only thing the Y&D group are doing. Now it's even more of a steal (and cost the BCA very little)

If it was a steal already then wouldn't this be twice the steal?  :-\

The proposal actually came from a member club who are taking many under 18s caving and were having issues with insurance and people having to pay too much up front. Fortunately being a BCA member for free helps the late and solves the former.

As 2xw says, it's part of a package, but I disagree with the premise it's an insignificant one

True,  It's a step forward, maybe I was a bit hasty with my first comment. I hope to see what else the Y&D has up their sleeves in future

Sure Rostam won?t mind me saying this but Feel free to get involve, there?s a few of us scattered about the country/world with various projects ongoing.

Particularly if you?re any good with graphic design

I think it's a good initiative; it tips the balance in favour of youngsters coming into caving .
Young folk are the lifeblood of any thriving community.

Any chance of confirmation of 2019 DIM subs (as per my question above), from someone as knows?

If I could remember for certain, I would.  :tease:

But I was also wondering if they could be paid now (as mentioned above).

Have a look on the BCA website, all the information is there.

Prices are here:
http://british-caving.org.uk/wiki3/doku.php?id=membership:dim

and if you look here:
http://caves.org.uk/payments/bca/forms/M1.html

it would appear that you can pay now.

Hi Pitlamp,

We don't don't know BCRA's rates yet but will do after the weekend.

So best not to renew just yet if you want the BCRA option.
