Sheffield University Speleological Society is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2011 with a weekend event during the August bank holiday weekend. The club was formed in 1961 when it branched off from Sheffield University Mountaineering Club, and has been going from strength to strength since.
A group of current student members and some more mature ?life-members? are organising a weekend of entertainment on the 27th and 28th August at Castleton Rotary Centre and would love as many members of the club, past and present to attend as possible. Were you a member of the club? Or do you know someone who was? We?ve lost touch with many old members and want to make contact, and hopefully see them at the weekend.
Events will include slideshows and guest speakers, a meal (including a hog roast), a Ceilidh dance, and much more. There will be a fully licensed bar on the Saturday. This will also be an opportunity to share photographs through the ages and to delve into the library archives. We are hoping to get a collection of memories through the ages ? do you have an old trip report to share? Or perhaps you remember an amusing occasion with SUSS? How about a photo or two?
There will also be plenty of SUSS 50th anniversary memorabilia available, from t-shirts, mugs, specially printed Buffs, to calendars.
Ticket prices are as follows:
Weekend ticket (indoor accommodation) - ?35 (book before 01.04.11)
Weekend ticket (camping) - ?27 (book before 01.04.11)
Indoor Accommodation - ?12 pppn
Camping - ?8 pppn
Saturday Evening - ?5
Food on Saturday Evening - ?7
Under tens - Half price
Under fives - Free
