Swildons Twenty Yesterday

Hello,
To the two friendly chaps from Wells who took our ladder down to the twenty for us yesterday - Thanks very much, it was really appreciated.

It was nice to be able to get straight into the sink without undue faff.  (y)

No problem. We left your ladder coiled at the top with 3 others; there was one ladder and 2 ropes on the Twenty as well!  Hope you all enjoyed PGS.

It was the only ladder there when we came by at about half four.  Thought I heard voices in Swildons 4 as we were abbing in, but didn't see another soul the whole trip.

PGS was great.  Surprisingly enjoyable given what I'd heard beforehand.

Thanks again.

Had my first trip down Blue Pencil so could have been WSG you heard.  :)

Did anyone else use Blue Pencil over the weekend and if so what do you think the oxygen levels were like?  :-\

Me Jake and Tony scuttled into Pirate Chamber in Shatter series on Sunday. We bumped into you guys on the the PSG trip up on the green. Ten minutes bailing the first duck after the 10 foot overhang, tight, wet, intimidating but all through and up on to Gour Pool duck. If you have seen it you will know it looks nasty and frankly daft as a way on but 20 minutes bailing and through it we go. The 4 meter aven and scalloped tube to Pirate are well worth the trip. Ripped my side lamp off my helmet on the way back out. Gour Pool is simpler on the return but the final duck (first on the way in) fills up behind you when you are in the Shatter passage so best not to linger too long beyond as you cant bail it from the downstream end. That said by the time you get to Pirate you will be cold enough to feel the need to exit anyway. We all felt the air could do with more O than CO2 once beyond the gour pool sump/duck but that could be rather more to do with being over 40 and pushing the edges of our waning stamina.
Shatter pot could do with a belay point back from the pitch as its a bit risky life lining from the pitch head with no back up. All in all a stunning trip with only our ladder left rigged on the 20' on the exit (there were four there when we arrived) 5hrs down and believe me the first pint was nectar.

We came out of Blue Pencil at about 4 on Sunday.  Didn't notice anything untoward - we were dragging bags, so probably would have noticed if the air wasn't all that.

Maybe you cleaned it up for us...

The oxygen was fine. I was more concerned about the methane that seemed to be following me close behind ...  :-[
