Skoda Yeti is very good. Probably not too dissimilar to the A6 Jasonbirder described above but the Yeti has a very simple rear seat removal system to give even more load space. Tyres also quite wide, reducing ground pressure (= force divided by area) so 4 x 4 drive works well on soft surfaces.

bmw 320d tourer, good boot space, economical devon to the dales and back on a tank over 45 mpg. comfy to sit in (collapse rear seat and plenty of room to sleep) and boots it when you put your foot down, cons are shite in the snow with RWD (depending how you look at it) low ground clearance (no off roading)
