?The Cliffs & Caves of Cheddar? by William Gough (1937)
A very interesting book of sepia photographic plates of the Cheddar Gorge and cave formations. Published by the son of the discoverer of Gough?s cave (R C Gough). It is quite marvellous to see the skill with which these images have been taken especially given the low technology available at the time. Having visited this area myself, I was delighted to be able to compare these photographs to some of my own. I was quickly able to conclude that my David Bailey skills were somewhat lacking.
Included also is a short mediation by the pioneer himself which offers a brief insight into his persona. All in all, not too shabby for 1/6 in old money.
A photographic tome of yesterday.
