Hey, that's a great idea!

Any ideas of where the best places to dig are?

I've been living in the area for a while now and have often thought about getting involved in something other than just recreational caving......

Just an idea.....

If no one is going to dig it out...

Why doesn't someone just fill the hole with some big boulders. Water would get away, it will be safe, what more do you want?

If someone wants to dig it out at a later date the large rocks will be very easy to remove.
What a good idea. With that kind of ingenuity you should think about getting into digging, pal.

;) ;)
Could always try the Moosetrap...

Litton has scarce opportunities for cave exploration but there is a fine ebbing and flowing resurgence there

And it isn't just coincidence that the swallet collapsed a few days after the clean up team had been in there

For the record clearing up litter from the swallet could not cause it to run in.  But it did make the place look tidy for about a week!

Well just along from littin Mill up at the millers dale end of the vally (over a foot bridge and right) is Moore sough, which is mostly natural and has a massive flow from it. I think the miners followed an old resurgence cave, when you get about 400 metres up the sough there is water pooring out of a collapsed level in the roof. This would need work to get through but would pay off also there are some big backfilled chambers that might be dug out worth a look. Very interesting spot and a good trip iff just for a day out.
could not
I think it is quite likely that pulling corrugated sheeting, pipes and timber from amongst a plug of small rocks and gravel will cause it to collapse, not that Im an engineer or anything

Don't even think about digging here me and my lad are already digging in the level that the water  comes from. It's us that keeps the lid clean so tht others can find it. By the way it's called Maury Sough or Maury mine and was driven in the 1700s If you would like to see my research pm me

The rubbish we cleared was from the surface.  If you take a look in the hole in its current state you will see that much of the rubbish that was below the surface remains.  As i said before clearing this rubbish would not cause it to collapse.

What is the access on that? I looked year or so ago and it looked a lot like the lid bolt had been welded shut - but didn't have tools to try turning it and didn't know the access position so (being very grown up) we left it alone.

Derek,
Don't worry T pot nobody is going to steal your dig, in fact the reason nobody has dug there in the past is probably because no one can be arsed. We all fully understand cave ownership laws!
