thinking of starting caveing

Mark's post makes me wonder about the Chinese character system - where a word is represented by a character - maybe that's how our brains work naturally? I'd always thought the alphabet was a good thing but maybe not....

...I think I got some inkling of the difficulties of dyslexia when I found out that my son can't hold enough letters of a word in his mind for long enough to be able to copy a word down from the blackboard.

A problem I have, looking up for every letter or small groups of 3 letters at a time. I even look up and have to look up again not sure if I have correctly remembered.I havent been tested but show all the signs of dyslexia.

Saw some article in (I think) New Scientist recently, on bilingual people who were dyslexic in english but not in japanese - the theory being that the sequencing of letters problem which is part of dyslexia isn't a problem with a language like chinese or japanese where each character is a whole word.
