When will the bolting in Thrupe Lane Swallet recomense?
It won't, `cos it's now done.
CSCC bolting peeps, Andrew and Chris, aided by two sterling sherpas, Stanley and John (Stanley's second sherpa trip here), have finally completed the present course of work at Thrupe Lane Swallet.
Bolts placed today (21-10-06) at Slither Pot (3 total) enable a muddy descent to the bottom of the cave and Ledge Traverse is now completed with the final anchor being resined in.
2006 has seen resin anchors placed in TLS at:
Location Quantity
Perseverence Pot 2
Ledge Traverse/Pitch 4
Marble Streamway 2
Lateral Aven/Chockstone 2
Slither Pot 3
Trips to the bottom of Atlas Pot plus an exchange trip are now possible without recourse to questionable/stripped spits of dubious vintage; visiting cavers no longer need to take a spanner or hangers to rig a selection of routes.
Overnight rains meant that the entrance was blocked with flood debris, loose rocks were loosened (onto my head a couple of times) and the grovel at the bottom of Perseverence Pot was a neck deep cold duck; despite the water levels being noticeably higher than on previous trips, strangely enough the wet inlet, which caused the abandonment of resining the final bolt on Ledge Traverse on a previous visit, was (relatively) dry* today thus enabling the completion of this route.
* No it wasn't. But since we were coated in mud from our trip down to the execrable cloaca of Slither Pot we didn't notice the torrents pouring onto us as we prusiked back up to the ledge.
