Doesn't bother me Burt as I am not a caving instructor but I would have thought a PM would have been more discreet.

Hi woputnam!
At the risk of being brazenly commercialistic (and risking the wrath of many in this community) send me a message through the contacts page and I can take you and your family caving for a modest fee, supplying all equipment. I run a government licensed activity centre.

To all of you now queing up to shoot me down then  :ras: got there before you, sour grapes etc.

I suspect there's plenty of cavers on this forum that will take you for free.

Burt, I don't think you really understand. The guy comes from TAG, one of the best caving areas in the world. I don't think he would want to pay money mincing about in beginners caves like Goatchurch or Long Churns.  :spank:

Woputnam, I live now in the USA (Indiana), and I hope the British cavers are as welcoming to you as the cavers I have met in the USA. I hope people on this forum have given you good offers for trips, if not I may be able to give you some pointers. Happy caving!

I was in the states 2004 and was welcomed and taken into Black Chasm Cave California at no cost.
Went back there last year with my wife and we were taken in by the manager as a guest even though we had only met that one week and he remembered my name thats how weloming they are

So I think we need to come up with a list of showcaves which woputnam will find well-presented as caves rather than entertainment for numpties. Of the UK showcaves I have visited which were (a) natural caves, and (b) interesting (to me) in the way I suggested, I would say Ingleborough Cave (a long time ago though) and Gough's. However, the problem with Gough's is having to pay for all the other tat that comes with it like bus rides, Jacob's Ladder etc. Which cave in each region suits the bill best?

Poole's Cavern in Buxton or Blue John Cavern near Castlton, in the case of the Peak District.

I know that the British Isles are relatively small compared to the US, but doesn't it also make a difference as to where 'woputnam' plans to stay and how long his visit is for?

For me wooky hole was the bigest let down ever, the show cave any how. I would invest my money in goths cave and the other caves owned by the same chaps within cheddar gorge. They are much more worthy a visit and have tons more pritty stuff in them and you dont have the smell of cheese. Plus the audio tour in goths cave is amusing.
