"You may be aware that up until this Summer the cave had been completely blocked by large rocks to prevent access, the new gate will allow improved access for bats and for humans to carry out bat surveys if required.
I hope that you appreciate that being a quarry operator we have stringent H&S regimes and this coupled with the presence of a European Protected Species in what seems a very small cave I do not think we will be permitting access to people to explore this site unless bat surveys are being carried out by a licenced ecologist.
I realise this is probably disappointing however I hope you understand our position."
