    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

You must also remember that beer of 40 odd years ago was very different to modern real ale stuff.
Think of Mansfield Bitter, delivered in huge petrol tanker type lorries and pumped into miner's welfare clubs.
Home Ales and Shipstones, all now (thankfully) extinct.

This reminds me of a certain Working Mens Club in Chapel en le Frith I used to work at many, many years ago.

The regulars always bought the cheapest, nastiest beer they could find and pour it down their necks in great quantities. The bloke I worked for, introduced real ale into the club. we were lucky to sell a couple of pints a night as it was quite a bit more expensive than the mass produced sock juice.

Says a lot about the regulars I suppose......
