Wanted - reliable web host

I am developing a new site for my club and the big problem is finding a host.

I need php and sql - realistically I need 10Gig space.  But that is all I need.  There is ?30 or thereabouts per year allocated.

Anybody got  any ideas?  I have tried 0hna.com and just deleted the account because however temporarily they turned me into a p0rn site;-(

I have used 1 & 1 for years (probably over a decade ) and their service is good, they answer the phones and respond promptly to emails. May be a little more expensive than you want but for various reasons I have used other hosting companies and 1 & 1 are the best I have found (and I include in that big corporate players who were being paid millions and provided a less responsive service)

1and1 and 34sp.com are the two main players i've found to be within sort of club reaches of costs and ease of use with good support and both have been around for a fair time. Both of their minimum packages will be a bit over your ?30/year mark, but if you want an advert free zone they are probably about the best you'll get. I don't know what the BCA charges, but they may well be worth considering too. Other ways are to look at your ISP package as some of them for a slight upgrade or off higher bandwidth packages do have hosting available and these are often quite cheap as an add on to an existing package - i'm with plusnet for isp and get some free webspace and a free domain as part of the package

gardouth (i think that's his username) owns his own website designing and hosting service.

York university cave and pothole club is his testing facility for free and they have tested his server frequently.

His real name is gary douthwaite and he is a founding member of (rival :p) club york caving club. You may be able to get in touch with him via excalliber pot permission email.

I'm unable to help you more at present as i'm on my mobile.

10 Gig is an awful lot of space, what are you wanting to host?

BCA will host you for ?25 including PHP and My SQL but as we are charged by server space that is where the main cost is.

Damians link will give you all the details but you can contact me (or Cookie, although he is currently in Meghalaya :) ) for more info if you wish

Thanks for replys - yea looks like a lot of space - actually using a bit less than 6G right now - ambitious services for members are a big goal.

I use Webair in the US for my hosting, and they're good - works out about ?6 a month. I think my account is only 1GB though, so you may find it more for that much. 10GB is huge! Are you streaming video or something?

I can recommend Site5, which hosts my business website.

From experience, I can also recommend not just going for the cheapest hosting you can find. It's not just about the numbers (bandwidth / storage / whatever), it's about the service. Not all hosts are competent, and not all hosts are scrupulous.

Also, keep your domain registrar separate from your web host...

I think you're going to struggle to get decent hosting that offers 10gb for ?30 p/year.

Just to recommend them, this site (and ukbouldering.com) are hosted on a VPS at Rosehosting.com - their support is excellent and I'm sure their shared hosting plans are decent as well.
