Sorry for the vagueness, but this site is open to all and Wapping has suffered from mineral thieves, spray paint, druggies and drinkers all leaving their unpleasent mark on the place. Our underground mining heritage is very limited and precious. The information you seek is available to the dilligent, and perhaps getting someone to take you for a first visit and show you around would be a good idea?

Hi Mark, the path to take is the small path going round the houses to the Cromford side of The New Bath Hotel (near Masson Mill), there's a break in the wall on your left (a path opposite on the right), go over the break in the wall and then head rightish again up the slope and drop down into a small dip enclosed by rock faces after a short distance - the Wapping entrance is to be found at the back. A bricked up section with a gap over the top. If you want a local guide, I'm sure that Owd Git or myself would be happy to join you.

Now, it's been a poor old year for trips this year, I've only ever had the one quick trip into Wapping/Cumberland - I might be up for a jaunt on the right date  :-\

Went ere today for the 1st time enjoyed it alot. Ended up going down some of the lower workings by mistake but glad we did. Finaly got to cumberland n the spiral staircases liked alot, spent 4 hours ere and enjoyed it alot. Just 1 question y did the cumberland entrance get blocked?

4 hours? A good start! Believe the top end was infilled by the landowner as he was unhappy with cavers coming and going, but I stand to be corrected. Glad you enjoyed it
