That's the crux of the issue - I don't care if the guy wants to walk about in a dreamworld of his own, or get himself into whatever sorts of trouble.

But when he starts using devious tactics to deceive others into thinking he's qualified and to abuse their trust, he is being bang out of order and should be stopped.

It's lucky that that accident happened at Garlands pot which is one of the smallest pitches in Derbyshire, and not at Geology Pot deeper into the same cave, where, firstly the woman would have been very seriously injured if not dead, and secondly the rescue would have been a major incident.

Maybe it was the disappointment of failing to get into International Rescue that sent this guy over the edge.

I suppose he might be self-deluded rather than genuinely malicious; I am beginning to have suspicions that the chap has been involved in a crash in which he has sustained brain damage or somesuch; knowing of someone locally who has similiarly been affected and the parallels in mode of speech/writing lead me to this idea.

If he has been so affected then to some extent he deserves sympathy but the onus then falls on to the shoulders of those around him who have not taken him to one side and said something along the lines of "Andrew, people are concerned that you are introducing people to situations where they look to you to provide guidance, leadership and safety and we don't think you ought to be doing this for their sakes, as much as yours...". I sincerely hope he is not impervious to suggestions of this type.

It is certainly becoming clear to me that he is a fantasist but perhaps he believes his own hype and is not open to critical self-examination. All rather worrying. Perhaps someone who knows him well could provide an insight into the reasons behind Andrew's behaviour and his vigorous self-promotion in the world of outdoor pursuits, aspects of which he appears to be muddling along in a state of happy oblivion.

:evil: hey, watch talking about those who have survived serious headon car crashes!!!....drunks are dangerous when they are driving and they can harm the innocently intelligent!!.........thats why i write stream of conciousness style......i can't access the learned stuff, its gone, parietal lobe damage!!.................. :x....i have 20 years of cave rescue experience and what always pissed me off is the guy that took the injured newbies to the cave wasn't the one that got hurt.....this guy who has been strutting about posing as something he isn't is a total idiot if he can't see the danger of a person convincing inexperienced people to trust him if he isn't as knowledgeable as posed..............................generally letting people know about him is enough.......at "stomps" (cave parties) and grotto meetings this type of person is generally rather rudely treated and invited to leave....more often and more vorsiferously as the evening and drunkedness develops........i flatly refused service to the only known caver-childmolester i have ever had to opportunity to do that to.... :twisted: ......education is the best defense against the moorhouse-types of the world...... 8)

Andrew Moorhouse is still the liar and conman that is suggested on the Internet forums however is now using a different name...

I met Andrew Gilleard through a dating website, first impressions are that he is a gentleman. Andrew told me that he was an active member of search and rescue as well as an outwards bounds instructor. He also stated that he was an active reserve in the army, often working with the civilian police. The skills that this man claims to have is unbelievable (I know that now..) he slowly fed me a pack of lies about who he is and what he does. As I have now found out Andrew Moorhouse is his real name and he is a compulsive liar and cannot be trusted. He has not got any outdoor qualifications but does come across as knowing what he is doing - but he doesn't. What his aim is I'm not sure but there is an element of financial gain. If you are female and says he loves you, wants to marry you and hasn't felt that way since his fianc? died - well he's said it all before. There is so much more I could say about this man however all I'm going to say is avoid this man.
