That would be due to the catchment areas being in different parts of Mendip, if it rains in Priddy it could be dry in Stoke St Michael and vice versa.

nipped up to take a look at the entrance this lunchtime, about an hour after it had stopped raining...looks a bit too sporty for my liking.

there were a few clues as I approached

looks like the water had overflowed into the manhole at some point recently

nice waterfall

I'll have a look again tomorrow...

Nice piccies, Bru!

They reminded me of my first visit there with Rich C. Also his first visit. The water on that occasion was actually flowing into the manhole. Nonetheless we descended into a total maelstrom of water - most exciting. Unsurprisingly enough, we didn't find the sump (due to high water levels).

Struggling out semi frozen wetsuits in a blizzard wasn't so exciting!

Fair play to you mate, must have been exciting! Was it hard work getting back through the entrance against the flow with the water that high hughie?

I've been in there when it's been a Whirl Pool
It took me & my Mate Graham 20 mins. to get back out of the Entrance
With me pushing him up whilst Wedging myself in. Then Graham reached in & dragged me out in time for a Beer
Cheers Paul

I honestly can't remember, Bru. It was quite a few years ago now.

Alternatively it may be down to "Les's Law"

water was about 4 or 5 inches lower today, but the catchment is now very saturated....

Bru can give an update, I reckon, but at a wild guess I'd say SLS will be a tad on the moist side at the moment, with more rain forecast for Sunday, too.
