I've never been into Wells Museum. As it was founded by H. Balch, should I expect it to be an interesting place? Is it a place where anyone who claims to be a Mendip caver should call in sometime?

Actually the work you and your buddies do in there goes a long way to making the whole site into one big museum...
Don't underestimate your achievements, and keep up the good work.

Ah, the website. Bin there. Dun that. A bit thin on details, I thought.

Tell you what, when I've actually been there, I'll write it up for the forum. Deal?

You can check out my display case of prehistoric stone artefacts while you're there! - it's in the corridor just past the entrance to the Balch Room, downstairs.  8)

Excellent! One day I'll teach you how to make things in bronze, and iron.

I suspect he'd settle for gold and silver.  :coffee:

If you walk next door to the very interesting cathedral, they try and fleece you for entering a place of worship, not only that, if you feel curious how bishops live, they try and take another tenner off you.
All this mammon makes the Herbert museum jolly good value, better value than Gough's cave thieves.

I am sure that if you want to use the cathedral for it's true purpose, to pray or worship, then you can do so free of charge. This is the norm at all such cathedrals and abbeys that I am aware of. Just turn up when a service is scheduled and enjoy the real raison d'etre of the cathedral.

If all you want to do is admire the superb architecture, then I see no issue with a charge to help maintain a very expensive piece of heritage.

I plan to enjoy the museum instead!

Peter if you take your two boys & spouse for a day out, Wookey Hole caves & attractions, Wells Cathedral & Bishops Palace& gardens, followed by Herbert's Museum, slap up lunch in a hotel, few hippy trinkets from Glastonbury, trip round the Abbey, you might get away with about £200 for the day.
Happy holiday
