Wet in the Dales

Ah, but the garage is THE most important room in the whole house to have sorted first. That's where the bench, vice etc live - which are needed for much of any other DIY stuff.

You could always suggest that your partner takes over bucketing duties, which might focus attention on the problem a bit more?

Just a quick one (back to topic) - if you're heading to the Dales today (Friday) for caving just bear in mind that the "showers" correctly forecast for overnight last night have resulted in getting on for an inch of rain for the last 24 hours. It'll not be dry underground.

I'm planning on going down Bar Pot tomorrow and bumbling through to GG Main Chamber, since I've never been in that system before I'll probably stick to the trade route (assuming I can find my way), I'm hoping that shouldn't be an issue with the moistness you're reporting (forecast seems like it should be OK tomorrow).

Any local guidance much appreciated

Bar Pot won't be a problem (although you may get some drips down your neck at the bottom of the Big Pitch).

My comment on the water only really referred to conditions today. Tomorrow (Saturday) is likely to be quite a lot drier underground because there's a decent frost forecast overnight tonight. Bar will be fine.

Just 2 of us...

I noticed BRCC had it in your meets list, so I may see you either in there or a cafe beforehand. I'll take a large tacklesack to pick up the kit you've dropped ;-)

I'm planning a trip up to Dow on Friday, does anyone know what the roads are like around Kettlewell?  I dont think my car will get up the Car Gill hill out of Kettlewell if it's not a well travelled or gritted road.  Well the car might, I'm less confident about me driving it.

I can only speak for Skipton area but the roads are fine here, the majority of the snow and ice has melted (Not like there was much snow here anyway)

This "freezing rain" which the weather forecasters have predicted for over 24 hours has arrived right on cue (at least in the Clapham area). I nearly fell over just going out to pick up the milk this morning. If you're driving to the Dales today take great care off main (i.e. gritted) routes.

Doppler radar precipitation over Ingleton area this morning is pretty awesome, with a whole line of heavy stuff on its way.

Well spotted. In case it helps anyone planning today's caving I collected 11 mm overnight (near Clapham) to 07-00 and a quick glance at the gauge shows a further 3 mm has fallen to 09-00. However the trailing edge of that front has now almost gone through. Yes, rivers are up - but nowhere near as much as they can be. It'll be wet underground  but by this afternoon at least  it should be a reducing flow situation.

Obviously make your own judgement about the safety of caving; I'm just trying inform folk of the situation as best I can.

Lunchtime update - have just been out on the hill for a run. It was sunny and dry - but demoralisingly draughty. Streams are high.

Just a quick thought; would this topic perhaps be better amalgamated with the other one (Wet in the Dales) - only if Captain Chris is amenable, of course?
