Off topic I know, but while we're on racks, another vote for the BMS microrack. I was given one by an American caver who I took caving on his UK holidays a number of years ago and I really rate it. Great all rounder I think. Good wear resistance as it's stainless. Bars are tubular, which mitigates the poor heat disipation of the stainless steel, but might get a shap edge when they wear through (like the new croll), but this will take a while and should be easy to detect before it goes.

The Petzl 5 bar rack is great for straight drops, but I find it awkward on technical SRT as it is so long. I ended up cutting the end off mine and turning it into a U-rack. It beats the BMS microrack for pull-through trips as it'll do two ropes and it's even easier for technical stuff as it's very short. Only let down is that it's crap on a thick rope (as it's too short). When the Petzl bars wore out, I made new ones from mild steel rod, which have good heat disipation and pretty good wear resistance.

I also have a kong (rackong?). It's pretty much identical to the BMS microrack in size and design, but has aluminium bars which seem to be wearing out VERY fast even if the heat disipation is good and it is lightweight. When they do, I'll make the new ones from mild steel I think...

Each stlye has it's place in SRT, just depends what sort of caving you do. I guess you could say racks for pitches or somethnig like that  ;)

I had a Kong Rakong and managed to mash the bars on a single pitch (3mm groove on 15m pitch!).  I designed and a mate built a stainless steel (316) micro rack and haven't looked back.

There are a few variations of the BMS micro rack. Short and long, 1 and 2 hyperbars. It was amusing when I was there a few weeks back someone asked "Is your rack going to be okay with the rope?" as it was a mine trip and being rigged with 11mm. I laughed and said yes (your 11mm is more floppy than ours, what can I say...I prefer it stiff  ;) )

Anyway that link looks like the long one hyperbar version.

I don't ever have an issue with heat dissipation on racks unless doing long rope / heavy loads on the rope (basically more than 100meters single pitch it can get warm, or rappelling with 100+ pounds of weight on the rope). Trick is to just keep moving if it heats up so it doesn't stop in place, but trust me, your bobbins/stops get wayyyy  more toasty faster - at least every time I've done comparison tests.

I could get a photo of them next to each other...give me a bit.

Are there any other bits of kit available other than:

Petzl Croll
CT Evo
Camp Turbochest
Kong Futura Body
Kong Cam Clean
Anthron AC-30
I just found this awesome site with an exhaustive database for gear comparison:

Top level

http://storrick.cnc.net/VerticalDevicesPage/VerticalHome.shtml

Make sure to look about, here's an example page for said topic

http://storrick.cnc.net/VerticalDevicesPage/AscenderDevices.shtml

Make sure to click on the handleless eccentric cam devices link to show the list of the crolls similars and versions

Sorry about all the links, I've been stuck there since I found it, like a museum of wow.

I think this sums it up well. Good find and thanks for sharing.

Definitely worth a look for any of the many gear geeks out there!  (y)

That site was already mentioned in reply 15 (2 years ago)  ;) ;) ;) ;)

Great website indeed, it is how I discovered which Croll Version I have, and really liked (Version J)

I also picked up an Anthron Version C for under ?25 so although Petzl have released the Croll Version L, they have missed out on my purchase this time round.  I've not used the AC-30 yet, but from a quick look, it seems to have fewer teeth, so I assume the next replacement will be quite quick and i'll be back to a Croll.
