White Peak Campsite

By request of Mrs T, I'm looking for a campsite in the Peak that allows small campfires with a toilet/shower block.

Any recommendations?

Can't think of any that allow camp fires. How about one of those ?15 Chinese pot bellied barbies with the grid taken out & sticks put in. We've used these with no probs on several sites.
Oh there's a couple of sites round Lathkill that spring to mind - Haddon Grove & the one in Monyash at the top of Lathkill dale.

Not stopped in many Peak campsites living here, but have stopped at Haddon Grove and its a right shite 'ole full of chavs - hence the litter in Lathkill seems to be mostly around where the public footpath comes into the dale from said campsite. o_O

Met up with a TSG mate on Saturday night who was stopping at a campsite in Birchover and that was full of chavs too.  I blame Go Outdoors n the like for selling tents etc far too cheap.

The little camspite at Tissington is quite nice - limited pitches, decent folk only.

PS - I think the one at Pindale is OK - easy walk into Castleton. Me n JB spoke to the owner a few months back and he tries to keep the weekend Carling Black Label drinking chavs out. And he lets folk use his SRT training tower for nowt if you ask nicely. (y)

Yes, mixed reviews of Haddon Grove on the web  :-\  If it was up to me we'd just stay at Magpie but Mrs T finds it "spooky"

Might try the Miners Standard at Winster again - the landlord there seems quite quick to chuck off any troublemakers and I'm sure there was evidence of old fires there when I stayed there for the NAMHO event.

Hi Alex, just following your final theme, how about the campsite at Grange Mill with the Holly Bush just down the road, or back of Ye Olde Royal Oak at Wetton (very nice pint), another Royal Oak at Hurdlow takes campers, noticed a campsite just down from Knotlow within easy walking distance of the Bull in Monyash and best of all for a pint (but no amenities!) camping at the Quiet Woman at Earl Sterndale

I'm guessing this would be the Grange Mill one?

Will give them a bell and see if they can fit us in. I like the Quiet Woman but Mrs T would not be pleased if we end up somewhere with no amenities  :spank:

Gentle walking will be the order of the day as Mrs T has still not forgiven me for our White Scar showcave visit

The Miners Standard campsite has been booked en-bloc for a "Sunflower Festival" this weekend with no other camping allowed, according to our parish mag (Winster) in case you were thinking of this weekend...

Had to book 2 nights and pretty much give up on the fire idea, looks a good site though.

Mrs T was inspired by the site we stayed on in Norfolk earlier in the year which provided every pitch with a steel ring cut from a drum to have a fire in;

Quite a rare thing to allow fires I guess, all good fun though.

Zomjon - I'll give you a bell when we're up if you fancy a pint.

Barn Farm was not bad as big campsites go. Apparently there were over 1000 people camping over the weekend. There was an office open 24 hrs a day, security guards patrolling the site and the toilets were being constantly cleaned. Quite an impressive organisation.

Always good to get away from the crowds in the peace and solitude of the hills  ::)
and the early morning sun glinting off a light dusting of empty Stella bottles was a beautiful sight.
