Firstly may I congratulate you on an excellent site. Informative, intelligent and a very helpful bunch you all seem to be!

Unfortunately, I also have some rather sad news regarding William Chipton - assistant secretary of Crowborough Caves.

You see, I'm afraid he's dropped down dead and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the kind words regarding his timely demise.

He campaigned for many years regarding the re-opening of Crowborough Caves and was instrumental in raising awareness and organising local fund raising activities - such as the annual Crowborough Caves calendar.

We at the Friends of the Caves of Crowborough will be continuing with Bill's efforts to make these caves safe enough for the public and will be holding a small memorial service on the 15th March at 7pm outside the eastern entrance. Anyone in the area would be more than welcome to join us but please remember to bring sandwiches and wine.

Warm Regards,

Nancy Bellis

Oh what a terrible typo. Of course I meant 'untimely'.

Hi Nancy,

Just thought I'd point out you can edit a post by clicking on the Edit button on the top right of the post - you can edit your typo...

I'm sorry to hear of the death of anyone who campaigned in support of a caving cause. I'm sure everyone here feels the same.

There is also a thread on this forum somewhere about Crowborough IIRC, if you are invloved in this project I'd be interested to hear more about it, I don't know anything about the caves themselves.

I wasn't joking - really. No, seriously, I can't read. OK, I can write and type but when it comes to reading I'm totally useless - ask anyone. It's probably unusual and quite unnatural but then when you get to know me this all makes perfect sense really. Strange but true. It does have its plus points - I don't need to bother wasting money on spectacles, books or magazines but I can still watch telly, enjoy adverts and recognise a cheque when it arrives in the post. I can sort-of read swear words written in large lettering (you know, the F-word and stuff!) but generally I just make do.

Hmm - Isnt this the Hoax site.
Im sure there was a thread on UKcaving before - I remember pointing out that their caving photo (beardy bloke in black and white was actually a picute by Paul Deakin of the Agony Crawl taken in Bagshawe Cavern.

My condolences to 'Mr Chips' 3 bereaved wives and his 13 children.
