Winnats Head Cave Entrance

Hello lovely Sherbydire cavers,

This is just to point out that a non insubstantial portion of the cliff just above Winnats Head Cave seems to have cracked and collapsed recently. The collapsed rocks seemed to belong to an overhang which now even more overhangy & very cracked.

Now, this was my first time there so I would't know if it's usual for that cliff to rearrange itself so dramatically after every thaw... :-\
The collapse didn't impede entrance to the cave at this stage but maybe more collapse (which did look likely given the state of things today) could trap a party in; one would have to be bloody unlucky but there you go!
Maybe somebody that knows what they are doing should go, have a look, and poke down a few bits which look like they are held up by antigravity.

The entrance of the cave itself was fine, albeit chossy (we did some 10 minutes tops of gardeining), and the boulder chokes seemed reasonable (how do I love being short sometimes!): we made it to the boulder choke under Fox chamber and then turned back due to time/wussiness constraints.

If somebody decided to go and have look only to come to the conclusion that it's all perfectly fine and I should stop being such a girl, well, then I apologise in advance!

cheers,
z

That bit above the entrance was like that when we went at the back end of Jan - see here http://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?topic=11485.0 - and looked very new then.

I'm not surprised after the long cold spell and the very quick thaw that more hasn't fallen off - perhaps someone needs to go up there with a long pole and poke things around a bit.
