After a major effort by many volunteers a cave conservation plan for Witches Cave and Shuttleworth Pot has been produced by CNCC. The Dales region has now doubled the number of conservation plans under its belt. Hopefully there will not be another 18 year interval before the next one. It is available as a free pdf download from the Northern Caves Monitoring website

Are the first pictures of the dog skeleton as it was first found or are there any of it more intact? I have been down but it was very deteriorated by this point, a shame how things can be lost like that through carelessness. A nice read anyway to interrupt my exam revision

Indeed, a splendid publication.  I salute the decision on the level of access granted - it must be very tempting for the discoverers of such a fine and important cave to put a lock on it.  Hopefully the sensible permit arrangements will encourage responsible access without unduly restricting it.

The photos of the dog skeleton in the Shuttleworth publication were taken on the very first descent of the cave after the new entrance was opened up. Sadly even then before anyone touched it it was in a fairly poor state. If you let me have your email I can send you some of the JPEGS which I managed to take that day
