Wookey Sign STOLEN!!

Hi Stu,

The sump is a trifle snug at the start. It's about 65m long. James Cobbet got to an airbell 14m in. To reach this, and beyond, I had to remove several drag tray fulls of sediment before it enlarges a bit. Some 55m in, it rapidly 'surfaces' to a sadly just submerged roof. It then becomes a tight looking vertical rift which needed a tank taking of. This was before the current system of tank mounting came into being and it's another reason why I got no further. Started redigging the initial slope a few years ago for another crack at the end, but got involved in other things.

Some little sod also nicked my dragtray, is Swildons 2 a dodgy neighbourhood?  You may also have noticed the sign I put on the dive line, now removed, saying 'Please do not pull on this line'. Needless to say, some shit for brains pulled it as hard as they could. If you're down that way sometime, could you put my lead in the bucket, I've got loads.

Many thanks, mike

Hi Mike,

Blimey, I did'nt realise it went that far in I was thinking maybe 15 - 20m, I am down to 9 tomorrow so will
take your lead down to the bucket at 2.

Would you say the landing sump has any real potential or is it just one of those projects  o_O

Stu.

I've only dived it once in superb vis. It was a 1- 1.5m diameter tube, substantially filled with sediment, heading into a blank area of limestone. Looking at the survey, everything is to the right of the stream. N.E inlets heads left and Cowsh aven series is left and right. Yep, I'd say there was potential. The rift at the end was only just submerged. Which way it then goes, will time tell?

Hmm....    "potential" is an interesting word, meaning many different things to different people. In the context of caving, however, its use usually as a precursor signifying something worthwhile which should be imminently pursued is often an ill-advised omen foretelling of wasted lives, futile pursuit and... ultimately, ..... more potential.
:coffee:

Feel free to add any comment(s) for or against my cynicism. (p.s. I've fallen for potential over and over and no doubt will continue to do so. My heart belongs to potential, she's the one for me!).

Hi Chris,

It just occurred to me to introduce you to several of my long term digs in Mendips grottier places ;) They have stacks of potential  ;) ;) Honest :ang:

Thanks, mate. Just had a bit of a lover's tiff with P recently while otherwise spending some quality time down the quieter end of Elm Street. Fallen out of love with P a bit since then but no doubt I'll SPRING BACK soon!....

Talking of stolen signs, my other half, Librarian and Key/Permit holder of a long established Mendip club, very thoughtfully altered the position of a "Cats Eyes Removed" sign that she found lying around alongside some road, and re-positioned it under the sign for a local Veterinary Surgery. Naughty girl
All that is now required is the third sign that says "Special Offer" (& pigs might fly - the phrases vet and special offer really don't go together!).
I have to admit I did the donkey work, but it was all her idea - honest! :-[
