Whilst browsing this forum, I've noticed that there are a certain number of members seem to have far to much time on their hands.

Unable to find answers under peoples profiles I put it to everyone.

Is this because they are like the legendary Ben Betham and are on the dole?

Is it because they are students and doss all the time?

or is it because they get paid for doing nothing except browsing the we all the time?

What is the best career for getting paid for doing nothing?

Answers on a post card or you could just reply!

I'd like to nominate the Legal Profession.
They seem to exist within a diferent Space/Time Continuum from the rest of this world, and charge around £200 per Hour, Yet, seemingly do F*** All for it.

Personally i'm guilty of the student option, though i do get paid but not much, hence i dodnt to too much work for it!
Someone in my lab was just offered a £45k a year job (and thats after tax), but she turned it down for being a, in durham and b, she only wants four days a week. She only qualified 2 years ago, i say be a dentist!

Though for ultimate doss time i'd have to nominate the inventors of 'flexi-time', aka local government!

tt.

Actually no, I tell a lie, they do work, but only when it is destined to make everyone elses life more difficult and costly!

Hmm, yes, I've noticed that too.

I dare say the statistics on who spends how long logged into the forum is privileged information known only to Bubba who is far too honest and upright to divulge it. I certainly hope he is, anyway.

I am partly paid to do nothing but just be avaliable, then suddenly called out at crap times of the night or day or spend weeks working away from home working all hours.

Best job to give flexable working hours and being your own boss has to be a field based role were your on the road.

So. if you don't believe they do anything, don't go to them and don't pay them.

You'll soon find out whether you actually need their services or not.

Yes, and remember... it's not what you do, it's what you know. Studied this 21 years ago in A-level human geography; it's a quaternary industry where you are paying for knowledge, not products or services.

To some extent this is why plumbers, builders and mechanics are relatively well paid as well; any fool can use a spanner but knowing which bolt to tighten is where the £££ is to be made. Supply and demand also means higher prices are to be expected when supply diminishes - just look at housing!

I guess that I'm the first to post from work this morning :p

Paid relatively peanuts - but enough to drive a LandRover Discovery that only does 30.5mpg (that's my average, before I get all the flaming saying that a 4WD can't do that well)
Working in defense is a relatively steady job, and we get flexible enough flexi-time to take off half a day per week.
And when compilation times for the code is 20-70 minutes there is plenty of surfing time.

Also guilty of being a post graduate OU student

I'm one of those hated civil servants who sit at their computer all day, pretending to work for the MOD, but in reality all I do is post cack on a multitude of forums. I'm going to be redundant soon so why should I give a toss?

I have a relative who charges $450/hour for "thinking" time in the legal profession. However he breaks it down into 5 minute sections.

Aha, but what if he is thinking in his own free time just for fun? Surely this has no charge, even to himself; it's the same argument as saying time is money except when you're sleeping and then it's just rest.

A lawyer, not charging someone for his time? Even his own time? What planet do you live on Chris? No offence meant to any lawyers reading this - I don't want any of you charging me for your time involved in responding to this obvious slurr on your profession.
