Well it seems that my son, aged 7yrs, is just about to become the youngest active cave digger in somerset. I'm actually quite chuffed.

What do you class as active?

In the Peak Distrcit my daughter tested out the railway in my dig when she was aged 4... she really wanted to be in charge of a drill though..  :)

I was at my first dig at the age of 5 back in good old 1985. Mother was working so father was left to look after me.

I don't recall having much say in it!!

Got a feeling these two were younger than seven when they helped out at Battery Swallet a few years ago...

These are the kids of my regular digging partner.  His daughter also used to come along to Bone Hole sometimes.  They are however a bit older than seven now.

well active means, (in my opinion), going regularly. Nik has been digging with me and others on a few occasions now and is caving every week at the moment. so once again i ask, does that make him the youngest active digger on the mendips?

We had a lass in our club who went digging whilst pregnant. Beat that!

How about three diggers flooded into a cave who were rescued by two of their heavily pregnant wives?

Pregnant wives or not ? it's great to hear about youngsters getting stuck in ? and, indeed, giving every indication that they're enjoying it.

Well said Fulk - that's exactly what went through my mind when I saw those great pictures of them clearly having a whale of a time with the grown ups.
