Compact recommendations
« on: August 23, 2018, 10:46:36 am »
Hi, Im after a compact camera for cave and water use, nothing too fancy just for on the fly shots using camera flash or from head torch ( not a hugly bright one, just normal caving lumens) anyone got recomendations of what works reliably. Ive used some cheap ish ones over the years some OK but some had trouble focusing in the low light. Thanks

I think the Olympus TG4 wins it as an all round compact caving camera. If you do a search for "Olympus TG4" on here, you'll find loads of old threads with a lot more info.

I bought a brand new, sold as a 'refurb', Fuji XP120 off eBay for £95. I am in truth having some good results with it which has surprised me as I am very much a 'manual settings' type photographer when it comes to the underground.

My best 'easy pic' results are on full auto, hand held, but with an Imolent DX80 held out to the side at arms length on full blast at 32,000 lumens. The 32K isn't a typo, check it out.
Looking forward to NAMHO 2019. www.cambrianmines.co.uk

I love my TG4 for caving photos on the go using a remote flash.

Sony DSC-RX100

Large sensors, good in low light.

I've posted some photos of Mud Hall here previously:

Note that Mud Hall is very difficult to illuminate well - it really soaks up your lighting.
