I almost posted this in the "Diving" area of the forum but the following topic may have wider applications (e.g. drilling under waterfalls, or in wet digs where it's difficult to avoid giving a drill a dunking) hence it's in the "Equipment" section.

Does anyone have any experience of using these?

https://www.nemo-underwatertools.co.uk/product/underwater-sds-rotary-hammer-50m/

It's an SDS hammer drill rated to 50 m depth in water. Currently costs about ?2100 and comes with 2 x 5 Ah batteries, a charger and a pump to pressurise the innards for when diving. Batteries can be swapped underwater and there is a 2 year gurantee.

Also, does anyone know of any alternative equivalents which are also available in the UK?

[info]You did post it in the Diving section after all! I've moved this to the Equipment section.  ;) [/info]

No idea of anyone having one (probably due to the price!), but they do sound very cool, and must work as they've been out for a while now. I must admit I've blasted my Makita 243 several times now with the hose at the Chapel when it was plastered in mud, and it seems to have suffered no ill effects from that, though whether I'd try it under a waterfall I'm not sure. At least you don't have to blow the dust out. Getting resin to stick might be tricky :)

Why don't members of sections club together and buy one if they think there would be enough need? We do this for digging  quite successfully e.g. if we want to hire a digger.

Yep, something along those lines is being considered, hence our wanting to ask for others' experiences of these items.

Interestingly, maxf was trialling an (improvised) underwater sds drill last night. It's not depth rated to 50m mind!

I'll steer him to this topic.

In the discovery serie Gold Rush - White water they use an underwater drill to drill shot holes in large boulders.  I think it is the wone from nemo. But I'm not 100% sure

The GUE project to the Egadi Islands in 2017 had some Nemo underwater tools on a freebie trial/sponsored/'Technical Partner' basis. Second hand feedback from someone involved :

"...... killed about 4 of those",  "To be fair, we were using them between 60 and 100m deep"

https://www.gue.com/files/annualreports/2017-Project-Reports.pdf (brief project report page 8-9)

Not particularly useful I know, but it may be worth a speculative enquiry with Nemo, particularly if you offer to send them some feedback / photos of it in use in some ridiculous environment.

We managed to borrow a ?50,000 multi-sensor water-sampling sonde (salinity, temp, tubidity, pH, other chemistry ???) to use for a week in a French cave by asking a similar question and sending them the data & some photos back afterwards. We hoped we could identify any changes in the water that would indicate in-flow or side passages etc. Or anything else interesting. It didn't really give any useful data but it was worth a go.  It came in a sniper rifle peli case which was interesting at Dover and when handing it back in a lorry park off the M1
