BCA/BCRA card transactions
« on: May 23, 2008, 12:58:53 pm »
Due to the escalating cost of maintaining a card terminal, we have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel the arrangement we have with the terminal provider. Therefore with immediate effect BCA/BCRA will no longer be able to process card transactions. We are putting in place an on-line payment system and details can be found here:

http://caves.org.uk/payments/bca/

We can also process payments by Paypal, email me at membership@british-caving.org.uk for details.

Cheers,

Glenn

HAHAH I got slated for such an idea ages ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only my idea also included a way of checking if someone is insured by putting in a name and the site simply says yes/no.

Remember I also got slated because I said the plastic cards were a costly and crap idea as they were easy to replicate and I was shocked at the silly idea that the BCA was spending what £2000 if I remember on this device!

Err, no.

Glenn is talking about credit card payments, not membership cards. This has (almost) nothing to do with the membership card printing process.

I apologise if my original post was ambigous, I'd assumed that the several references to "payments" was sufficient to give the correct context.

"Still get rid of them crappy green cards nobody uses em!"

Not true.

Cheers,

Glenn

My BCA insurance card came in extremely useful to secure ongoing access to a new cave recently.

Ah, but John, that's 'cos you pander to the totally unreasonable demands of outrageously arrogant landowners who, in an ideal world should be so grateful to see cavers on their land that they should be paying us. ;)

I went to see the landowner - he was an extremely nice bloke but was a bit unsure whether it would be OK. So I produced my BCA card to show that our activities are properly insured and that clinched it. It's not the first time this sort of thing has happened incidentally.

My own opinion is that we're extremely fortunate that certain individuals in the caving world have put in so much time and effort to ensure that we have this insurance. I'm personally very grateful for that.
