I'm trying to identify I cave I looked into in the same field as Sunset, about halfway between Sunset and the boundary with the Middle Washfold field - ie about where P98a is in NC.
There were 2 entrances in a tiny dry valley, and a third too-tight entrance further up through which water could be heard. The 2 lower entrances dropped into a rift widening into a small chamber (about 3ft wide and 4ft long) followed by about 8ft of crawl - so far. like the NC description of P98a.
The crawl ended in an 8ft aven with a dead digging bucket. To the right was another crawl, this time with flat rock floor rather than boulder floor, descending gently for about 6ft to a bolted pitch with the sound of running water.
At this point I headed back out, seeing as I was actually on a botanising trip and not caving at all.
Does anyone know - is this a more recently extended P98a?
Or was I somewhere else entirely?
