Government looking for suggestions to improve access

I agree that education should be improved, on littering etc, but that is no reason to restrict access to the Countryside for all. Mess is a problem across many fronts. Just have a look at any given farm with its usual piles of rusting junk and black silage wraps blowing in the wind. We still see...

    On Site Duration

On a surface dig, excluding walking time, I'd expect 4-5 hours. That tends to have very little drain on lighting etc. Underground you've got the commute which could be anything. Time at the face say between 2-6 hours depending on several factors. One of those could be drill power...

    Meregill: Above the canyon

I enjoyed a trip down Meregill last saturday. Also very wet, noisy and dramatic. I noticed that rope also and I'm sure it was there years ago so I'd be slightly suspicious of the anchors. In these situations it's always best to send someone else up first ;)

New work at North End Pot

Yes, there is an old, abandoned dig in the right place. Andy Walsh was involved. I think it is in the book or on the survex model but don't have either to hand at the moment.

    A real treat for riggers

Anyone following our thread on the reopening of North End Pot will have heard me mention the second pitch into St Georges Hall. See thread https://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?threads/new-work-at-north-end-pot.33118/ The pitch had been left rigged for a long time, possibly since the original...

    Dartmoor wild camping appeal won

The supreme court judgement basically upholds a broad interpretation of the critical legislative terms such as 'open air recreation'. It tends to offer more support to the argument that the bca crow group put forward, and as it dismissed the Darwall appeal, it seems to dismiss the main argument...

New work at North End Pot

Nicks survey profile showing North by North End on the left which connects to the Eastern Front. On the right NEP. The development origins are unclear. Probably some very old stage one development from a very different past landscape. Heads out towards Tow Scar nowadays.
