    Hidden Earth 2012 - when / where

Well done les for organization. I'm sure you're fed up of us going over stuff you've tried but what about morecambe?  Seem to reme mber a big college between Lancaster and morecambe. And the locals would be used to rowdy behavior!

Well Mr Brook, you were right!

Love the first DM comment - you fools, you don't know what you're doing! Well done to all concerned! Terry.

    Secondhand kit- safety issues

Damian etc, thank you for your very comprehensive response.  Some very useful points there.  The guy he bought from turns out to be a friend of a friend so has a bit more confidence that he hasn't just bought a stop that been dropped down a pitch etc! Terry.

    Secondhand kit- safety issues

Similar point to the 'when to retire kit' thread below.  This came up as a friend is wanting to buy an srt kit. He is buying the harness etc new but we were discussing the safety issues surrounding buying metalwork  - jammers, krabs, stop, secondhand and wondered if there was a general...

    Suitable 'family' caves in derbyshire.

Cheers, Sam. Isnt bagshaw gated - I thought you had to arrange a permit and meet someone to let you in? How busy is Giants these days?  Would we be trampled by lots of groups?  I didn't know there was a car park.  I have a vague memory of driving to a farm and parking in a field there but might...

    Suitable 'family' caves in derbyshire.

Hello all, I have a family camping/caravanning weekend in August in Derbyshire, camping in the Hope valley site.  My friends kids would like to go down a 'real' cave as they are really into caves at the moment  - something to do with a kids  TV character who lives in a cave.  Can anyone...

    petzl zooms on ebay

They go for about a tenner  - some up to 15 quid.  I have a couple somewhere in the garage but I doubt they are functional under the mud and corrosion.  I was just curious as to who bought them really and why.  I used an old zoom camping last summer (forgot my own headtorch and borrowed someone...

    petzl zooms on ebay

Hi, Just wondered if anyone had any idea why petzl zooms went for so much on ebay?  I would have thought that everyone would have moved over to LED headtorches and you would be better putting your tenner towards something modern.  Am I missing something??  Terry

    Peak roads

Any updates on this?  I am working in Manchester tommorow/monday then planning to see friends in Chesterfield later. Anyone been over the a623 stoney middleton road? Nothing on the bbc travel website.  I don't have a 4wd and would rather not risk it if its just passable.

Thanks. I never noticed another magazine - was it glossy?  Will have a dig around in the recycling bin tomorrow.  Terry.

Three Counties in this week's Mail on Sunday

I  bought this mornings Mail on Sunday (for the first time ever) and completely failed to find the article.  Is it only in the Northern editions or have I missed something?  Is it in the actual paper or the You magazine?

Reccommed me a caving instructor in derbyshire

Once a year, a group of us old friends has a reunion, usually a weekend away with some sort of outdoor activity followed by pub meal and beers.  In the past we've done coasteering, abseling, mtb and gill scrambling.  Just returned from this years knees up in and find myself in the posiition of...

More caving on the telly - Wild Wales

Nice photography, and good to see caving portrayed without the usual emphasis on danger and drama.  Not sure about Daren Cilau being the 'biggest cave system in the whole of Britain' though....

A premature epitaph or maybe not....

Dear Simon.  I dont know you, and wasnt quite sure I understood your post completely - are you giving up caving because you think it will lead to a premature end?  This is something I have thought round a lot and had endless debates with friends and family to whom any kind of 'adventure sport'...
