petzl zooms on ebay

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had any idea why petzl zooms went for so much on ebay?  I would have thought that everyone would have moved over to LED headtorches and you would be better putting your tenner towards something modern.  Am I missing something??

I have an LED Lenser headtorch with the built in re-charger but the cable is knackered. Have tried to repair it but the cable is sooo small and the battery box is so tiny it is beyond my soldering skill to get it all to work again. What would I need to do to rewire it into a petzel zoom battery box with a decent sized cave-proof cable (I have a few of them here)> Anyone got a simple wiring diagram for wiring in a cree? I guess the drive circuits and recharging stuff are all on the circuit board in the Lenser battery box. Presumably I could bypass most of this and the dimmer function?

If all else fails can I buy a simple read- made driver for the Lenser LED from someone on here with some decent side wire tails I can solder onto?

I've got an old, but fully functional duo 14 led in a box at work. Make me an offer if you want it.

Cheers burt. I have all the hardware here including 2 petzl zooms, various battery boxes from an old Nova and even a working nova. But I have this LED Lenser which has a crap cable and battery box. All I want to do is rewire the headset bit of the Lenser into one of the battery boxes using a decent cable. My trouble is I don't understand the basics of how the LED lamps work and my soldering leaves a bit to be desired (think plumbing and that is where I am at)..... Maybe I could send the bits I have to someone who understands these things and get them to knock it all back together into something farmer proof. I really only need the lamp for lambing as I have a good caving lamp already...

They go for about a tenner  - some up to 15 quid.  I have a couple somewhere in the garage but I doubt they are functional under the mud and corrosion.  I was just curious as to who bought them really and why.  I used an old zoom camping last summer (forgot my own headtorch and borrowed someone elses spare) and it seemed very heavy and bulky compared to todays LEDs.  Saying that, I did have the best beam for spotting various wildlife on the campsite!

Blimey, not bad, I did have one, probably still do lurking around in a box in some dark corner somewhere, be a bloody antique by the time I find it again!

I've just sold some spares for an old bike-lamp system based that was a bulky halogen lamp with lead-acid cells, things have defintely moved on over the last 10 years or so.
