What size bag do I need to take kit on a plane

Firstly with batteries I think it was only a dubai security and not the airline. My understanding is any batteries in checked in luggage must be in the equipment, ie the battery box for the helmet. Loose batteries must be taken has hand luggage. Gavin Newman when he travels, and I believe...

Too Much " Foreign Stuff " In Caving Mags. and Journals ?

I have no issues with the content of Decent, and I know chatting with the previous editor the constant struggle he had of cavers supplying content. I find any big discoveries UK do have Decent dedicated stories, but how can you do more than a paragraph on went digging, put some bang in and...

What size bag do I need to take kit on a plane

You also need to check not only size of carry on bag allowed, but some airlines are now getting hot on carry on weight. Each airline will have its own regulations, but check before you get to the airport.

    Vegan food

To me this thread suggesting meat free is vegan, meat free to me is vegetarian, diary and eggs are acceptable. Whilst vegan includes dairy and eggs on their list of do not eat. Luckily we are still free to choose in the UK and most of the world, and we should all respect each other's choice...

Do you wash your wet socks?

If not going to be in mearsed in water, I wear wool or seal skins, only put wet socks on if immersed in water. All my kit goes into a washing machine, temp set to 20 degrees, spin set to 400. Always with softener and occasionally with powder. Never had any issues apart from wear and tear.

BCA statement on peer to peer training

I actually think the last lot of responses have been much better in constructive points to clarify, rather than the initial knee jerk reaction. I think as a club committee you would have a duty of care and an organised club trip the leaders should have a shown competency and ability. If you...

BCA statement on peer to peer training

Andrew completely agree with you, the document is stating you don't need NGB qualifications, that there is courses if you so wish to partake run, by clubs, regions, checc. If you put yourself forward to lead novices then one would hope you are competent, have plenty of caving experience and are...

BCA statement on peer to peer training

Having sat a listened to uni club's chat, seen uni clubs teaching SRT and seen some uni clubs in action, plus some club trips, I would say some form of training, not necessarily QMC, but maybe a weekend with just those that want to lead, passing over basic skills can only be good and give...

    Stupid Swildon's questions

I would say if your son is not over keen on caving, then the ladder at the twenty is the best way to put him of for ever. As said bolts are not best placed for srt, ie you will be prussicing through the water. Other than a ladder and lifeline and I always have enough for a z rig, you don't need...

    Fixed Aids and Safety Installations

the stats say you are at the most danger, newbies? young people because they don't necessarily understand the dangers, I was like this, although I understood the dangers but accepted the risk but not the consequences, as they would not happen to me, the oldies because they have always got away...

    Fixed Aids and Safety Installations

I except that not every older caver is like this, but I have had many a conversation with, I still body belay cause its never failed, if you cant free climb this climb you shouldn't be down this part of the cave, or I have always free climbed ladders with no lifeline, so I am not going to change...

    Fixed Aids and Safety Installations

unfortunately Chris I think some of us who think safety, are in a minority. you only have to look at the state of some cavers kit, especially cows tails, who think £6.00 is too much to pay for their life. You also have the mostly the older elements who think that cause the have always got away...
