    Chris Kinghorn

I first caved with Chris when I was in my teens and I'm only a year or so shy of him. Daft as a brush as we say in Yorkshire Always up for it no matter how ridiculous it might have been. A hard and committed caver in his time. Chris was one of those folk who once met never forgotten. As awful as...

    Bull pot incident

True Richard, he was one of the nicest folk you could ever wish to meet. A constant smile and never a bad word for anyone. He is and will be sorely missed.

    Advice on bats

Ant, re the bat enquiry (John here from the club). A while ago a lady who is apparently quite a noise in the bat world took the kids and myself out to a nursery roost for Pipistrelles. We had lights and cameras and she brought audio meters an headphones so we had both an audio and visual show as...

    Carbide and Vintage Vehicles

Good to see you using it as it was intended Simon. By P&M lights are you referring to Phelon and Moore (as in Panther).

    Carbide and Vintage Vehicles

I'm a bit scared to go off topic here, but Simon, is the bike in the foreground a 20's BSA and is it yours. The one with the CARBIDE light working. (that mention of CARBIDE may mean I got away with it. phew).

    BCA CRoW Poll Result

Thank you Jackalpup (Ian), for a down to earth and totally sensible post. Lets hope that it all goes that way and not the divisive backbiting that has been going on for months and getting no-one anywhere at all.

    BCA CRoW Poll Result

Why oh why is this going this way? The vote has been and gone, counted and the result out. Whichever way we voted now is of little consequence because a democratic process has been followed. I personally voted no because I felt that things could be sorted in a more amenable way, but fully accept...

    Access to Fountains Fell

Matt, sorry if I put this out before you wanted. However great news and well done Mr Speight. It shows the good work that the CNCC are doing.

    CNCC newsletter - December 2014

And further to the newsletter(which was excellent), a big thank you to Johnny Lattimer and Alan Speight who on behalf of the CNCC have negotiated a new access agreement for the Rainscar land on Fountains Fell. From January there will be no permits, just a courtesy call. Well done guys. :)

    CRoW Opinion Poll

Dear Santa, I have been good for most of the year and what I would like to have most for Chritmas is some peace, harmony and mutual respect in what has always been a friendly and helpful community.

Committed, resourceful looking for new project

Someone sent me this one on fb Joe, and I sent it to some of our club members suggesting that he could be an invaluable member of a particular digging team. Just abandon him in a tent on Malham Moor, tell him the pubs half a mile away . Problem solved, job done! :)

    Newly published book for sale

Seriously though Alex, well done for getting into print, publishers can be awkward to deal with.

    British cavers in Montenegro 1988

Cheers for putting Joe in touch with me Damian. Yes Joe it was us. We first looked at the area in 83 on our way through to Turkey. A quick recce gave a good indication that the known caves in the area were only a small proportion of what was likely. Research back at home showed little in the way...

LOST: Royal Blue Warmbac Undersuit - YSS

Hi Adam, have you contacted Damian about the suit. He will have a list of folk who were at the hut that weekend and if anyone has anything missing he puts it on the club website and it will normally put safely, if found, in the tackle store downstairs.

    my helmet disintergrated

Oh and Rhys, the guy in the left hand photo from the BCRA conference is me pretending to examine something at Caving supplies stall. Dodgy hairdos seemed to be in at that time. ;D

    my helmet disintergrated

It is a Petzl but not an Ecrin. Its a budget model that Petzl produced in the mid 80's and the internal harness is much  more like a construction hat type rather than the more substantial Ecrin that had a decent internal cradle and leather headband. I still have one of these things kicking about...

Dowkabottom - anyone have a survey?

Pitlamp is right to point that out as it can be several days before sleets gill reacts to rainfall that may affect other caves rapidly. The section after the entrance ramp before the main tunnel and hydrophobia can flood leaving the entrance ramp innacessible. If your caving partner is...
