1961 Braida Garth Land Rover

Hello all

CNCC has received an unusual information request from someone searching for some information about a 60+ year old land rover... This is a definite long shot, but if there's an answer to be found then UKC is definitely the place to find it

The enquiry reads...

"I'm trying to find out the history of a 1961 Land Rover Series 2. You may wonder why I'm contacting you!! It was first owned by James Batty of Braida Garth Farm, Ingleton which as you probably know owns the land on which a number of your popular caves exist. If you or any of your members (probably the older ones!) have any recollections or photos from back in day showing the land rover or James Batty, it would be great to get hold of the information so I can build up the history of this much neglected but soon to be restored motor."

If anyone has any information, we'd be glad to pass it on.

I can add a little further information here, having now been in touch with the bloke who asked about this. He has the original number plate and would very much like to use this when the restoration project is complete. However, even though the screw holes in it are an exact match with those on the bumper, DVLA will not accept the registration number without further evidence.

So, what he would particularly like to get hold of is an image taken around Brada Garth or in Kingsdale which includes the Land Rover with the registration number discernable. Cavers are more likely than most folk to have such a picture lurking somewhere. Can any of our senior forum members help?

That thought occurred to me an' all Mark. I suspect he'll be aware of the advantage of having that; he certainly seems to know what he's doing. The restoration is something of a challenge evidently; not one for a complete novice to take on.

Presumably he's in the Series II club and has taken advice from their Vehicle Registrations Officer. Navigating DVLA can be fraught!
